Our Story

How a simple question about tea quality became a mission to share authentic experiences

It Started with Disappointment

In 2019, after returning from a trip to Taiwan where we first experienced properly brewed oolong, we found ourselves unable to replicate that moment back home in Hamburg. Every tea we purchased felt flat, lifeless, and nothing like what we remembered.

We started asking questions. Why did grocery store tea taste like cardboard? Why were the leaves crushed into dust? Why couldn't we find harvest dates or garden names on any packaging?

The answers led us down a path of discovery that would eventually become TeeZeit. We learned that the tea industry had optimised for convenience and shelf stability at the expense of everything that makes tea worth drinking.

Building Direct Relationships

We spent two years travelling to tea-growing regions. Not as tourists, but as students. We sat with farmers who had tended the same gardens their grandparents had cultivated. We learned to recognise quality by touch, smell, and the sound leaves make during roasting.

These relationships form the foundation of TeeZeit. We know the families who grow our teas. We understand their methods, their challenges, and their commitment to preserving traditional craft in a world that rewards mass production.

What We Believe

Principles that guide every decision we make

Transparency

Every tea we sell includes its origin, harvest date, and processing method. No mysterious blends, no hidden sources. You deserve to know exactly what you're drinking.

Freshness

Tea is an agricultural product that deteriorates over time. We import in small quantities and package to order, ensuring you receive tea at its peak character.

Fair Relationships

Working directly with gardens means farmers receive fair compensation. Quality improves when producers can afford to focus on craft rather than volume.

Our Approach

Simple principles, carefully applied

Selective Sourcing

We sample hundreds of teas each season. Most are rejected. The few that meet our standards represent exceptional moments in their gardens' annual cycles. We purchase only what genuinely excites us.

Minimal Intervention

Great tea needs little embellishment. We don't blend our single-origin offerings. We don't add artificial flavours. The skill of the farmer and processor speaks through each leaf.

Education Over Sales

We would rather help you enjoy one tea deeply than push you to buy many. Every order includes brewing guidance. Our goal is your satisfaction, not your repeat purchase from necessity.
